We can occasionally bring specific animals for educational presentations. For example we recently brought Prickleball the hedgehog to kindergarten classes to reinforce their skills after reading Jan Brett books featuring hedgehogs. The kids were very excited to see and touch a real live hedgehog! Contact us for details! |
Critter Camp is open by appointment only for the safety and well-being of the rescued animals, however we are now offering Private Tours for individuals and small groups in exchange for a donation. Scheduling is flexible. It generally takes at least an hour to meet all of the animals here. Critter Camp is centrally located between Rockford and Freeport as well as between Chicago and Galena, only a few miles off of Route 20. Bring your animal lover here for a Private Tour on your way to or from your weekend get-away in Galena! Please contact us for details! See the MAP of our location Tours are available 7 days/eve.s a week, year round, by appointment only, for up to 6 people at a time. Best times are Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays day or evening, and Saturdays at noon or 1:00, or Sundays at 3:00 or later. Other times are available, weekends usually book several weeks in advance. Folks have come from Chicago & the Suburbs, Wisconsin, Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Texas, Canada, and Ethiopia! Bring your ANIMAL LOVER* to learn about, pet, & hold some the 200+ rescued critters we care for of 30 different species. We ask a tax deductible minimum donation of only $10* per person per tour or equivalent in supplies - please see our Wish List page for supplies we always need *Tours are FREE for our Sponsors! See details here. *Every cent goes to care for the rescued animals. *We NEVER buy, sell, breed or exploit the animals in any way! Critter Camp is: 100% volunteer operated & 100% No-Kill, fully insured USDA, ILDA & IL DNR licensed to care for and exhibit exotic animals. *P.S. Mom's & Dad's - don't worry about your child wanting to take an animal home- we do not adopt the rescues out! Only occasionally when we take in a litter of hamsters or gerbils for example do we try to find new homes for them, and even then we do not allow impulse adopting! |
