Critter Camp's
"Rainbow Bridge" Page
Dedicated to members of the Critter Camp family that have "gone to the rainbow bridge."

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow
Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or
maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and
times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very
special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the
distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from
the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in
joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again
caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone
from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... "

Gizmo the fennec fox

Running a rescue and caring for hundreds
of animals, many on deaths
doors when they arrive, we have our fair
share of Rainbow Bridge
crossings here- but this weekends will be
remembered as one of the
absolute saddest ever-
We lost little Gizmo the fennec to
congestive heart failure- he has
never gained weight since coming here -
weighing in at barely 3 lbs-
and we suspected maybe his metabolism
was off- he didnt eat the other
night at all, so we made sure to keep him
confined a bit near a
heater for extra warmth and syringe feed
him so he stayed hydrated,
as soon as he seemed to be weaker and not
getting stronger (within
hours of his initial symptoms) we were
taking him for medical care and he
just went- he was like a noodle - limp and
unresponsive- it happened
so fast- within 12 hours of his not eating his
usual supper he was
gone- it was horrible-
he had been getting supplemental taurine
too since we know they are
prone to heart problems and taurine can
help prevent them-
we are all just sick- literally - heartsick and
nauseous even- it is
so sad- he has left a huge hole in our lives,

poor flash is getting hugged and held all the
time and he isnt that
crazy about it- he is like- geez mom why are
you crying all over me-

we try to take comfort in knowing he finally
had several months of
a good life- finally out of the cage and
playing happily-
Deart sweet Flash the
fennec fox will be greatly
missed here at Critter
Camp. He left for the
Rainbow Bridge 3/25/09
after  a bout with liver
cancer. He lived a good
long life here and was a
ripe old 12-15 years
when he passed.
Words cannot express
the joy he brought to so
many people. Little
Flashypants, Boo,
Precious we will see you
again at the Bridge
someday.
Pogo the Short Tailed
Opossum
5-10
rescued from the
horrific Global exotics
Raid in Texas, lived
happily here at critter
camp for his last few
months. We were
absolutely thrilled to
have him here- he was
a complete joy
Those of you who have visited
us here at Critter Camp will
remember our beloved big  old
dog Zeke. The kindest gentlest
dog there ever was. He has
passed to the Rainbow Bridge
this week due to advanced
cancer at the age of 11 1/2. He
was adopted from the local
shelter at age 5 months, he was
here before there was a Critter
Camp and he welcomed every
animal graciously.

He played with the ferrets, and
kissed the mice on command.

We miss him more than we can
say.
